Client Services
Based on twenty years of research, ClimaTrends offers a unique
service to California wine growers. The extremely volatile nature
of California wine grapes during hang-time makes accurate long-range
forecasts of upcoming weather events a valuable commodity. Dryness
in winter, coolness in spring, radical fluctuations of temperature
between fruit set and veraison, or late rains before harvest, can
all present logistic potentials for excellence or disaster for
the wine grower. To ease these uncertainties, Climatrends provides
for its clients several in-depth features that unfold throughout
the growing season.
Yearly Overview
The first is a yearly ten month seasonal over-view from January
to October. The information for these forecasts has a probability
of about 70% a year in advance, giving our clients a useful
picture of the year to come. While this is a good percentage and
no one else offers this kind of accuracy this far in advance, it
still leaves a range of possibilities for change as the year unfolds.
To track these changes, we offer to our clients regularly updated
mid-range forecasts.
Monthly Updates
Starting in January of each growing year, Climatrends clients
are provided with monthly updates that look at the next three-month
period in detail. These written updates get very specific about
the weather events in the near term months, noting any potential
shifts in previously forecast patterns. These updates are rated
with probability assessments and are reviewed each month for
potential shifts in previously forecast patterns. But as harvest
approaches, we realize that even monthly information isn't
enough.
Weekly Bulletins
Coming into the all important hang-time periods the monthly forecasts
are reviewed on a weekly basis by our technical staff. Current
updates are posted on a website accessible exclusively to clients.
Any insights into the potential for developing conditions to
become acute are immediately posted as an aid to help our clients
make the best decisions in the critical times just before harvest.
